IP multicast is a form of data transmission optimized for broadcasting a television signal over IP/MPLS. The data service is implemented by mapping individual channels or transport streams from the customer to an IP multicast group.

Multicast groups can be mapped dynamically and signaled via IMP (Independent Multicast Protocol) or statically via IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol). For IMP, Energotel supports the SSM version (source specific multicast).
